ICON White Spot Treatment in Los Angeles
Reduce the appearance of selected white spots after braces, mild fluorosis, and certain developmental enamel changes without drilling away healthy tooth structure.
Dr. Daniel Adelpour evaluates the cause, depth, color, location, and pattern before recommending ICON resin infiltration. Not every white spot is an ICON case.
Actual BLVD patient treated on teeth #8 and #9 in one approximately 45-minute appointment. No whitening was performed in this case. Immediate result shown; individual results vary.
What Is ICON Resin Infiltration?
ICON uses a low-viscosity resin that penetrates porous enamel beneath a white-spot lesion. The resin changes how light passes through the affected enamel, helping reduce the contrast between the spot and surrounding tooth.
Because ICON works within enamel rather than covering it, treatment does not promise that every spot will disappear. Results depend on lesion depth, color, cause, location, previous treatment, and tooth structure.
Who may be a candidate?
Post-braces white spots
Demineralization left after orthodontic treatment is a common reason patients ask about ICON.
Mild to moderate fluorosis
Selected superficial fluorosis patterns may respond, depending on lesion depth and distribution.
Developmental enamel spots
Certain localized enamel changes may improve after the lesion is evaluated.
What Happens During ICON Treatment?
1. Evaluate
We examine the spots, enamel surface, dental health, shade, and smile goals.
2. Plan the shade
Whitening may be considered first when it could improve shade matching. The featured case had none.
3. Infiltrate
The teeth are isolated and conditioned, then resin penetrates the porous enamel.
4. Finish and review
The resin is cured and polished, and the immediate result is evaluated.

ICON, Whitening, Bonding and Veneers
| Treatment | What it does | When it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| ICON | Infiltrates selected porous enamel. | Appropriate post-braces spots, mild fluorosis, or selected developmental lesions. |
| Whitening | Lightens the overall tooth shade. | May reduce contrast or be considered before ICON. |
| Bonding | Covers or repairs an area with composite resin. | Deeper defects, shape changes, chips, or cases ICON cannot predictably improve. |
| Veneers | Covers the visible tooth surface. | Broader changes in color, shape, position, or existing restorations. |

What Does Research Say About Resin Infiltration?
Clinical research indicates that resin infiltration can improve the optical appearance of selected white-spot lesions, including post-orthodontic lesions and some fluorosis patterns. Results vary by lesion type and depth, and long-term evidence remains limited. This is why BLVD evaluates each spot individually and does not promise complete disappearance.

How Much Does ICON Treatment Cost?
ICON treatment at BLVD generally ranges from $300 to $800 per tooth. Your total depends on the number of teeth treated, lesion depth and extent, time required, and whether whitening or another cosmetic treatment is recommended. Cosmetic white-spot treatment is often not covered by dental insurance, so coverage should be confirmed with your plan.
ICON White Spot Treatment FAQs
Can ICON completely remove white spots?
ICON can make selected lesions less noticeable, but no result can be guaranteed.
Does ICON require drilling?
ICON is a microinvasive treatment that generally does not require drilling away healthy enamel.
How long does treatment take?
Limited cases may be completed in one appointment. The featured two-tooth case took approximately 45 minutes.
Should I whiten before ICON?
Sometimes. Whitening may be recommended first when it would improve the final shade match.
How long do results last?
Longevity varies with lesion type, oral habits, staining, maintenance, and future dental treatment.
What if ICON is not enough?
Deeper or structurally different lesions may need bonding, veneers, restorative treatment, or monitoring.
